CCTV looked at after NatWest bank ram-raid in Birmingham
Police scouring CCTV footage in the hope of finding useful information
CCTV footage is being scoured over by the police following a ram-raid at a NatWest bank in Birmingham.
The gang involved in the attack used a van to smash their way into the bank, which is located at the Lanes Shopping Centre, Wylde Green, Sutton Coldfield. They reversed the Renault van into the walls of the bank in an effort to try and rip the cashpoint out of the wall.
The gang didn’t manage to escape with the cashpoint machine but got away with some iPads.
The incident happened on Thursday, December 1, sometime between 2am and 2:20am. Police officers are now looking at CCTV from around the area of the incident in the hope of finding some useful information that could lead to an arrest.
A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police confirmed that the ram-raid had taken place at the NatWest bank in Wylde Green. She said that a Renault van was used in the raid and was reversed into the front of the shop. The gang then tried to dislodge the cash machine from the wall but failed and fled with iPads.
She added that officers were now looking at CCTV from around the area.
This is the latest in a series of ram-raid attacks on banks in Sutton Coldfield over the past few months.
A Halifax bank in the town centre was targeted back in August during the early hours. The building was ram-raided with the use of a Honda vehicle and the cashpoint was dislodged and taken.
On Thursday, November 24, a car smashed into a hair salon on Reddicap Heath Road at around 1am.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and call 101, or you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
